I would bet money that the union for the people cleaning the subways had something to do with the decision to remove benches in order to be "proactive". I have friends who work for public transit and the clean up from vomit to human feces is real...because it's "public" transit and the homeless naturally stay in it when it's really cold out.

What if we just made more homeless shelters and made it more accessible for homeless people to get mental health counseling.

Maybe...what if instead of deterrents...
let's build shelters they'll actually use so we don't have to worry about them sleeping on benches anyway?
