This is what my wife and I do. Two years ago we rescued Kevin, a tuxie cat that had been there for 6 months and didnt like anybody. We opened his cage and he crawled into my arms and wouldn't let go. He lived with us for six months until he passed of his auto immune disease.
Now we have Muffin. He was at the shelter for 4 months and not one person was interested. He's a 14 or so year old cat with three teeth. He's 20 pounds, shaped like a bowling ball, and he's going strong. It took 3 months before he figured out what cuddling felt like and now he's the biggest cuddle bug, and he's losing weight because he's learning how to play with our other cats.
We will always adopt the least wanted cat from the shelter because they always appreciate it

Senior kitizens are THE BEST. We only adopt elderly pets so the have a loving home in their golden years.
