I call this "sitcom syndrome", when people put on an act because in their head they are being watched by a live audience. With the rise of social media it's gotten more widespread. These people are not grounded and present, you are interacting with a persona. For some people they don't have a strong sense of self outside putting on a show. I used to be one of these people.

Yup. Had a....debate with someone on here the other day about how sending rape jokes to women as an opener was a bad idea.
Got told I "just didn't get it" because it was "dark humour".
People are fucking idiots.
