A doctor who was in charge of treating Alexei Navalny in Russia soon after he was poisoned with novichok has died suddenly aged 55.

Dr Sergei Maksimishin who was in charge of treating Alexei Navalny in Russia soon after he was poisoned with novichok has died suddenly aged 55.

Maksimishin died in the intensive care unit where Navalny was treated and it is not believed he contracted Covid-19.

Initial reports said his blood pressure suddenly shot up, and he died of a heart attack.

The doctor was in charge of intensive care at the Omsk hospital where the opposition leader was taken after his poisoning (pictured). »

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - An engineering director and a software developer have quit Alphabet Inc’s Google over the dismissal of AI researcher Timnit Gebru, a sign of the ongoing conflicts at the search giant over diversity and ethics.

Gebru, who co-led a team on AI ethics, says she pushed back on orders to pull research that speech technology like Google’s could disadvantage marginalized groups.

Democrats pressure Biden to cancel $50,000 in student loan debt by executive action

A group of Senate and House Democrats have reintroduced a resolution urging President Joe Biden to cancel up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt held among 44 million Americans.

Within the next four years, if unchecked, outstanding student debt is expected to hit $2tn.

Congresswoman Pressley said an executive order on student debt would "lay the groundwork for an equitable and just recovery, to truly build back better", borrowing the president's campaign slogan. »
