My grandfather had some serious medical episodes that required him to be hospitalized in 2017.

He was a civil service employee and retired with lifetime full coverage medical benefits.

After a couple days I noticed the hospital was ordering tests and scans for unrelated things (ex: heart scan for Parkinson’s symptoms) and I started getting suspicious.

I asked for an itemized list of everything they had been doing and they had charged medicines he never was prescribed or needed to be on as well as various procedures he didn’t need.

I threatened a lawsuit because I was convinced they saw his health insurance and were like “let’s charge/bill everything we can since he doesn’t pay for it”

His overall bill dropped significantly and I was assured they were simple coding errors.

I didn’t follow up with it because I was so involved with my grandfathers recovery I was just glad to see him leave the hospital.

TL;DR - ask for an itemized bill to make sure they aren’t adding extra charges to your account.
