Tom Nichols has a great point here; a lot of this is a desperate need to pretend that their lives are more interesting than they actually are. The dead giveaway is the "infosec" in this case, when what they're actually describing is a blog or post. Nope, gotta make it super secretive sounding, can't just admit they're reading 8chan like a fucking teenager!
