to be fair, he didn't invent video games, just the idea of the home console. before that we had tenis for two which is considered by many to have been the actual "first" video game. this was developed by William Higinbotham. however giving him total credit for the creation of video games would still not be right as there were many instances of simple tic tac toe programs and chess games too.
Games were an inevitable consequence of the invention of computers. It's actually quite debatable who made the first one, but one thing is certain: if this guy never existed, we would still have video games.
