Do people not realize that the lifestyle of someone with 100 billion in the bank isn't that different than that of someone with 100 million? Bezos and Musk and their ilk can't use the money they have.
So the answer to the "correct" level of equity is this: no one ever gets so poor that they go bankrupt from medical debt, sleep in the street, or starve to death. The government spends what it takes to make that happen. To bankroll it, they tax the people who won't even notice that the money is missing.
However much they have left, they can keep. If there are no more homeless people and the richest man in the country only has 50 million in assets, that's a society I'm OK with.
