In German we have a letter Ö which means the same as Ø.

Rødgrød med fløde.

Fem flade flødeboller på et fladt flødebollefad.

Ø means island in Danish.

Øretæver.

What the one in the post have is ønsketænkning, wishful thinking.

Back when I was 16 I worked at a large British supermarket chain. One day I served a guy on checkouts who had a very obvious German accent.

It was a normal transaction, scan the stuff, pack the bags, ask if he wants cashback, swipe the card (pre-pin) give him his cashback, wish him a good day. The usual.

Next thing I know I'm being pulled away from the checkouts into the manager's office where this guy is red in the face and screaming about how I was accusing him of being a nazi, that I was xenophobic and demanding I be fired.

I hadn't got a bloody clue what he was on about, as far as I know it had been a completely normal encounter a bit of chat about how long he would be in the area for, was he enjoying his trip etc.

Finally my manager figured out what was going on.

When we give cashback, company policy was that we would initial the receipt once we handed the cash to the customer. In theory it made mistakes less likely.

So I had handed a receipt to a German guy with SS written across the top....

My manager had to get my work ID (and blank out most of my surname with tape) as proof before the guy would believe that my initials actually were SS and then show him a copy of the policy.

He apologised and my manager sent me home as I was in bits.
