Omg! Thats insane, Anthony Bourdain once said "Tokyo is like 15 Manhattans, with 100s if thousands of amazing little places to eat" From this picture it looks more like 50 Manhattans

My experience visiting Tokyo for the first time: Everything feels like being 'downtown'. If you're in a giant dense area of the city, hop on the metro for a half an hour ride, get off, and you're downtown again. Hop on another metro and go 45 full minutes in a completely different direction, and yep, you're smack in the middle of 'downtown' again. The scale and density is unparalleled.

I love big dense cities, especially the good ones that are easy enough to get around. Been to NYC many times and still get the same excitement with each visit, but Tokyo is a whole other beast. The sheer scale, variety and concentration of experience to be had is mind melting. If you like food and drink, you might eat something every day that you'd consider the best food of your life. So when you discover that many buildings house dozens upon dozens of small restaurants and bars spread out over multiple floors, that aren't even visible at street level, it can be a borderline numbing realization.

The most important thing for first time visitors to Tokyo: If you're someone who likes to have an itinerary, be prepared to toss it out. You won't be able to do a quarter of what you'd like to do properly. Stick to one main 'borough' per day, hit the sites and spots within radius, and give yourself plenty of time to change plans on the fly, because there are so many lovely and quiet lower key neighborhoods to wander. If you try hit too many specific spots, you'll spend all your time in transit and miss out on a lot.

Needless to say, it'll be nice to travel again.
