Honestly this is the problem i have with most 2A rhetoric. There is a lot of talk about defending themselves and the people around them from the big bad that's lurking right around every corner. But the way it's presented it always seems like they are just waiting for an opportunity to legally kill someone.
If you know a gun owner that openly discusses revenge fantasies this is a good indicator that it's not about defense for them.
Typical tales are "I don't care what the law says. If anyone ever did something to my wife/children I would hop in my car, drive to their home, and shoot them dead."
Normal, well-adjusted people don't maintain fantasies of vigilantism and being brazen enough to discuss this out loud is basically admitting that they're one temper tantrum away from murdering someone on a whim.

The thing is, nobody is so sure that they will not shoot their colleagues instead of protect them. I certainly would not trust about a third of them.
