The grandfather was in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice (was the goon in the tan suit that fought Sean Connery alone at the Osato HQ)

Anyone else think it’s amazing that Mr Johnson not only paid to tribute his father, Rocky Johnson, during his career but also his grandfather?

I wish I were in a family that had that much respect for each other.

The filmmakers recruited experts from across the South Pacific to form an Oceanic Story Trust, who consulted on the film's cultural accuracy and sensitivity.

The character of Maui was initially bald like Dwayne Johnson but the Trust reacted strongly against this and after seeing early sketches they advised, “We have to put more hair on Maui’s head, because it’s very important. The mana is in the hair, the power of the demigod. It looked just like he was naked. For us, it was really important.”

The character's appearance was then reworked and inspired by Polynesian football players like Troy Polamalu. The hair made the animations much more difficult but the Trust was greatly pleased with the final version.
