I'm sure this idea's already been done in some capacity by someone somewhere, but I wanted to do my own version tooooo

Our Circle of Stars Druid, Orion (Warforged, reflavored as a tree, before anyone asks) is a veritable swiss army knife of utility. Despite being a full caster, the bulk of his damage in combat comes from sources that aren't reliant on spell slots, so any time we need anything remotely magical done, he's usually our guy.

Our Conquest Paladin, Varden, on the other hand, is very much the opposite. He's almost completely specced for big damage numbers in combat, and relies heavily on buffs and smites to do the lion's share of our party's damage. In our last session, he briefly considered using a spell slot for something other than smite. I can't remember what it was, but it wasn't a spell that would have been hugely beneficial to use at the time, and I joked that he'd be denying himself the opportunity for more smites later. It wasn't said seriously in any stretch of the imagination, but it was actually enough to make him reconsider and save himself a smite for a boss fight that happened soon after.

He ended up doing 156 damage in one turn against an Aboleth, insta-killing it, with the help of that spell slot (and our many buffs) and it was incredible.

btw here's the meme format this is riffing on

As a Paladin player, I can confirm this, though I love me some Bonus Action Spells too
