So many people don’t know (in the US) that most of the things you see hanging in the class and being given by teachers is out of their own pocket, not just pizza parties. Pencils, papers, basic stuff that the school can’t or won’t supply in many cases.
My mom worked a summer job just to be able to do a little extra on top of that. All while having a masters in special education. It was inspiring and sad to see at the same time

Also the underpaid teachers are footing the fucking bill and pizza for 35 kids is expensive as hell

I threw a pizza party last year (pre-covid)
$50 - 7 extra most bestest pizzas from Little Ceasar
$4 - half a case of water
$5 - 6 two-liters bottles of generic soda
$14 - two containers of Save Mart cookies
So $73 bucks to welcome my students back after Christmas break, totally worth it.
