When I was a kid, my uncle used to get pirated software from some friend of his at work. We lived about 5 houses down the street from my uncles family. When he'd come home from work with the pirated copies of MS Word or Photoshop or whatever programs, he'd come to my house first and tell me he bought the latest copy of the newest program to share with us.
The thing was, some times the cd's had some virus or wasn't the complete version of the program but there was no way of knowing it until the installation started. Turns out all he was doing was testing the program on our computer first before going home to install it on his own. That way he'd know which one was good or corrupt.
The only way we found out was we needed a new computer only about a year after buying one and his was still good three years after buying it. Then my cousin told me that his dad used to test all the software at our house before installing it on their family computer.
