ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph is expected to vote to impeach President Donald Trump, a member of his staff tells FOX 17.
He’s now one of four House Republicans to publicly announce their plan to support impeaching Trump, ahead of the vote expected Wednesday.
“Today the President characterized his inflammatory rhetoric at last Wednesday’s rally as “totally appropriate,” and he expressed no regrets for last week’s violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol," Upton said in a statement late Tuesday evening. This sends exactly the wrong signal to those of us who support the very core of our democratic principles and took a solemn oath to the Constitution."
"The Congress must hold President Trump to account and send a clear message that our country cannot and will not tolerate any effort by any President to impede the peaceful transfer of power from one President to the next," Upton continued in a statement. "Thus, I will vote to impeach."

I like this but I wanna start seeing Senators turn. Dems already can impeach, they have numbers. We need the Senators to convict.

It feels like momentum is building. We only know of those who have supported impeachment publicly, but there are definitely others. As more republicans join, other republicans will start worrying about being on the wrong side of history and begin to worry about election consequences. When you add to it all the pressure that corporate America is putting on politicians, the fact that Trump can be eliminated as a rival in 2024, and the fact that the FBI/DOJ is going to aggressively pursue charges against supporters (reenforcing that the insurrection was as serious as it seemed despite some spin from the right), then you can start to see how it becomes harder and harder to vote no. Also, as more facts come to light it’s becoming clear how serious the situation was and how close we might have come to a very bad situation. No one wants to vote no just to find out a few days later that the insurrection and Trump’s involvement was even worse than initially thought. If enough Republicans vote yes, it will give cover to others, and that will give cover to even more. It will be interesting. Definitely not a sure thing in the Senate, but it’s a real possibility.
