The only unbelievable part of this is that the US Capitol Building didn’t already have metal detectors at its entrances.
Update: Apparently the new metal detectors were installed outside the entrance to the congressional chamber itself rather than the building’s exterior entrances, to enforce a rule that already existed that legislators can bring firearms to their own offices but not onto the chamber floor. Source.
Another (2015) source: Members of Congress can maintain firearms within the confines of their office and may transport within the Capitol Grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped. But no one can carry any firearm inside the chamber or on the floor of either House unless assigned or approved by the two Sergeants of Arms.
Notice it’s always the guy who keeps taking toilet paper and paper towels home from work that gets mad when they lock the supply closet. We’re all frustrated at the inconvenience, but the one responsible is always the most indignant. Why the fuck is that? Oh yeah, it’s narcissism.
