Louis was surrendered to a pound in Calexico shortly after the operation because his previous pet parents couldn't adjust to life with a blind pet.

Unfortunately, a medical check revealed that the dog also had old, untreated injuries, which likely came from being hit by a car.

As a thank you for giving Louis a second chance, Helen Woodward is offering his adopters a free training session, dog food, and treats.

Louis will be available for adoption on Wednesday, January 13.

Whenever I see articles like this, I’m a little happy that the dog will be safer away from these people.

Last year my dog went blind rather suddenly. It was actually pretty easy for him to adjust. A couple pool noodles later the house was mostly safe for him to walk through without hitting his eyes on the corner of tables. Some floor mats and he was very good about making it through doorways without using his nose to hit every door jam.

What couldn't they deal with?
