Dwayne Johnson took this role very seriously believing that voice acting is the most difficult career in acting, and is personally annoyed when celebrities are cast in animated films despite voicing their characters badly.

When Johnson was cast for the film, he repeatedly asked the other voice actors present at the recording if he was genuinely giving a good performance.

This is incredibly relevant timing for my household. I was just having a conversation with my 10-year-old daughter about how her parent’s voices annoy her, even though objectively we are both good singers. I was theorizing that there is something about hearing your parent’s singing that makes some kids cringe on the inside, even if they are actually doing a good job.

My mom grew up singing and playing guitar in coffee houses in the 60’s, and had a beautiful voice. Still, I can remember songs coming on the radio whenever I was in the car with her, and she would sing along. For some reason it made me so unbelievably annoyed! Even accomplished musicians who sell millions of albums have said on talk shows that their kid is not only unimpressed, but act completely repulsed by their singing.

I have thought about this before and really wonder if there is some science behind it. I remember that there was a blind study that proved that women are usually repulsed by the pheromones in body scent that their fathers and brothers give off.

Is there anything in a parent’s voice that might have an effect, or are kids just naturally embarrassed by whatever their parents do?
