Trump demonstrated the power of his base. Now that the GOP understands, we are seeing a new wave of extreme right wing politicians, like Hawley, who are starting to wield this base as a weapon. And they are leveling their sights on democracy.

Hawley is a Yale-educated lawyer. He understands fully well that his First Amendment rights are not being violated in the least by Simon and Schuster, a private corporation, terminating a contract that they were most probably well within their rights to terminate.

He is nevertheless representing on his Twitter account to his extremist base that his constitutional rights are being violated in an effort to rile them up and reinforce their sympathies and loyalties towards him.

I don't know how to stop this cynical manipulation of a large segment of the American public towards fascism. I fear we are going to see a rise in the number of GOP politicians like Hawley and like Ted Cruz, and feel powerless to stop their sedition.

Fuck that guy. Losing a book deal should be the least of his concerns right now.
