Live updates: Pelosi calls for Trump’s removal; Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to resign

After being interrupted by a mob of Trump supporters unwilling to accept the result, the U.S. Congress confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s win — the last procedural step before his inauguration Jan. 20.

A woman who was fatally shot inside the Capitol — one of four people who died in the mayhem — was a San Diego resident, her family said. President Trump expressed support for the mob even as he urged them to leave the Capitol building. Federal, state and military officers have been deployed to secure the area.

Trump said early Thursday there would be “an orderly transition on January 20th,” but the pledge came alongside a continued spurious claim by Trump that he was the real winner of the election. Meanwhile, Facebook banned the president from its platform and from Instagram at least until the inauguration.

How all those 80 year olds are still awake is beyond me.

But on a serious note I’m worried we haven’t seen the last of this mess
