I’m glad this got dropped and the distilleries will not have to pay the fee. But holy shit...what a load of crap. Reminds me of the time the IRS was going to charge the guy who caught Mark McGwire’s record breaking home run ball with a 40% gift tax because he wanted to return the ball to McGwire. (Ball was roughly estimated to be worth in the neighborhood of $1 million.) Fortunately, they backed off and “waived” the tax when there was a huge public outcry. Parasites.

I thought I read that this ended up getting dropped.
Edit, yes. It was dropped a few days ago. https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilyprice/2021/01/01/hhs-has-voided-hefty-fda-fees-on-craft-distillers-that-produced-hand-sanitizer/
Still shitty they tried in the first place.

As the owner of one of the small distilleries affected by this, it was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride. Happy new year
