I got bids from tile setters to do a backsplash for $2000. I ended up doing it myself for under $200.

I've set tile before but I'm far from knowledgeable on the topic. I bought 3x6 subway tile from the hardware store for $0.15 each. I used pre-mixed mortar and pre-mixed grout to save time and effort which added about $50 to the total cost. The whole project took me about 5 hours of actual work time. This is definitely a "big impact - low effort" kind of project.

Edit: many have commented about caulking the edges. I took this picture prior to doing just that so I added a couple more pics here. I posted a couple different angles as requested.

Edit 2: price breakdown: 3x6 subway tile from floor and decor (brand is Festival) $36, Mapei pre-mixed thin set adhesive from F&D $33, Mapei pre-mixed grout $42 from F&D, Ryobi corded angle grinder from home depot $22 (black Friday deal maybe), 4 in. Diamond blade from home depot $24, 1/8 inch spacers from HD $4, blue tape $4 from HD, un sanded grout caulk from F&D $8, sponge yellow 3 pack $6 HD, trowel $9 HD, grout float $9 HD

With the amount of tile used I’d have assumed more than $200 but that’s awesome. I love high impact low cost home renos. I redid my bathroom and spent maybe $1200. When my house got appraised the fact I had a “newly remodeled” bathroom really helped.

Good job! My uncle does this type of work and he does charge a pretty penny lol. He did it for my dad recently and he was joking saying "you know you can do this yourself right?"
