Shoutout to my mom who very kindly brought me "dumbells" from the basement and even washed them so I could work out at home with weights - turns out these are old Soviet-era hand grenades
Luckily though, after calling 911 and talking with the bomb deminers, these turned out to be not dangerous and didn't contain explosives, but we still had a pretty good scare since they looked so similar to the real thing. Also took me a minute at first to convince my mom that these are definitely not dumbbells.
Edit 1: We learned that these are not dangerous and never were dangerous and were used as hand grenade samples in sporting events (assuming in the military? or in the defense league/camps, or schools, etc. ) to practice throwing grenades.
Edit 2: My parents recently renovated my grandparents' (who are passed) house and the house has a huge basement with lots of stuff they still haven’t thrown out so she must’ve seen these down there before but never realized what these really are.
