I’ll never forget this random day. I had same situation as that kid. We were taking HSPAs that week. Literal high school assessments to determine if you’d graduate. I missed the bus. My parents are gone, my emergency old guy ride not answering the phone. I’m now in anxiety ridden panic mode.
With nothing better to do, I just go door to door down my block knocking on doors. I finally see a neighbor who is loading his kids in the car. Never actually had spoken with this guy before. I explain the situation, he drops his kids off then takes me to school.
Later I got him a thank you card and left it on his door. Such a small act of kindness and in today’s world of skepticism most people wouldn’t have gone out of their way for a panicked 16 year old but I’ll never forget it
Let your kids know which houses are safe to go to during an emergency. My kids know which houses are OK to go to if they are locked out or worse and which houses to avoid. Just a good thing for them to have in their back pocket.
