The following statements make total sense to Canadians:

I used a 5/16 drill bit for that hole that's 137 centimetres off the ground.

I went to the store and bought 500 grams of sliced cheddar cheese and was excited that my favourite apples were only $0.99 a pound.

I need three cups of molasses, so I think I should probably buy two of these 675g boxes EDIT: cartons or whatever the heck these things are called.

It's over 34 degrees outside so I set our thermostat down to 74.

The contractors who are building our 20 foot long porch live in Barrie, which is about 110 km away. (Really a Canadian would say one hour away.)

My experience with Canadians suggests long distances are measured in hours at assumed freeway speeds.
