/r/TheyDidntDoTheMath

$30 gift -> most likely a $29.99

sales tax of 6% = 31.79

now if they get paid $10/hr

their take home is more closer to $7.00/hr

so now that is

4.54 hrs of their life

now add the time it took for them to pick it out, shipping or cost of gas and wrapping paper we’re probably closer to 5-8hrs of their life.

last but not least they also have to get it to you somehow. so theres more gas or shipping fees

so yea. were looking at a hell of a lot of time for a gift youll probably trash before memorial day.

Coming from a poor family, I don't like gifts on holidays. The obligation and expectation of receiving a gift and basically being required to give someone a gift is too much anxiety for me.

My sister is a cna and just declared bankruptcy. Every year she insists on getting me something for Christmas. She's an excellent cook so I've finally convinced her to give me recipes each year. This year I'm getting the marinara sauce.
