Thor: Ragnarok's 'Friend From Work Line' Has A Touching Origin Story

One of the standout lines from the Thor: Ragnarok trailers has a surprising and touching origin story.

Director Taika Waititi has already revealed that much of Thor: Ragnarok was improvised, but the moment in which Thor first sees the Hulk in a gladiatorial arena and describes his as a “friend from work” came from an unexpected source.

“We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day,” Thor star Chris Hemsworth tells Entertainment Weekly. “He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!’”

It seems like the line worked, as it became one of the most memorable moments in the first Thor: Ragnarok trailer. The second trailer, which was released at Comic-Con International: San Diego and can be seen above, expanded the moment with Thor filling the Hulk in on some of the events that have transpired since the “Green Goliath” disappeared at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, including the destruction of Asgard at the hands of Hela.

"Work" for the God of Thunder and his friend means being members of the Avengers. Both heroes left the team and Earth (or Midgard, as Thor would call it) after the battle with Ultron in Sokovia, but the Avengers will reassemble to defend the planet from Thanos and the Black Order in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.

Thor: Ragnarok currently has a 4.17 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating, making it the third most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
