Yup. We all know SW was an homage to the classic WW1 and WW2 style battle and in WW1 some pilots came from the civilian arena where they barnstormed and performed other ariel acrobatics before being recruited.
At T-16 isn't radically dissimilar to an X-Wing, just much smaller, so it would make as much sense as one of those WW1 barnstorming pilots turning into fighter pilots.
