The island of Rhodes has a bit of history given that it has been inhabited since about 4000 BC.

Ok so I know it's a tourist trap, but from my experience as an American, it's still kind of amazing. Streets like this don't exist in American cities except in Disneyland. But the street in the photo has survived for hundreds (thousands?) of years only to end up looking and functioning exactly the same a Disneyland attraction. I don't know what exactly that means, but it's sort of amazing to me. There's clearly something very vital about that kind of street because it survives so many generations and reimaginings, even to the point that it's been recreated as a cheesy tourist trap, both in new world theme parks, but even in its current location.
