This happened to me Monday. Coworker asked why he couldn’t see my reports he’d approved. I said I was waiting on clearance from Compliance. He asked me to follow up on it. I looked at my clock. He’s approved it at 3:45 on Friday. It was 8:04 on Monday. It had been less 1.5 hours. Nevertheless I sent an email to Compliance asking for a follow up. Their response: “The one you sent at 4:08p on Friday?” A very polite way of saying it’s only been 45 work minutes. Why are you following up already?

Oh ya, a coworker of mine used to do that when he messes up a deadline. He would pull an all-nighter to catch up, send an email requesting something, then send the follow-up around 10-ish to make it seem like you didn't respond since the previous shift! To add the cherry on top, he would cc the boss and imply subtly that the delay may be from your side.

I had a boss once who I spoke with at like 4:45pm about some updates he wanted done. As we ended the call he mentioned setting up a follow up for 8:30am the following morning.

No.

They were not urgent.
