Just two days before Thanksgiving, a Michigan couple married for 47 years died from COVID-19.

Leslie and Patricia McWaters both died from COVID-19 on Nov. 24 after being hospitalized with the virus, according to an obituary. Their deaths were recorded at the exact same time.

“It’s beautiful, but it’s so tragic. Kind of like Romeo and Juliet,” their daughter, Joanna Sisk, told NBC affiliate WDIV. “One wouldn’t have wanted to be without the other.”

Patricia McWaters, 78, who was known to friends and family as Pat, was a registered nurse and spent 35 years of her career working in the operating room at the Foote Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, Michigan, her hometown.

Leslie McWaters, 75, also originally from Jackson and known as “LD” to friends and family, was a truck driver and a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve.

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last December. They both arrived at the hospital on September 18. My dad passed on October 14. My mom passed on October 22.

I now know someone very close that passed away from covid and another person on a ventilator. Everyone I know either has had covid, has covid or people close to them have it. Up until a month ago I had only heard stories of relatives and such in other states. The funeral got my family sick (still waiting on results). I certainly wouldn’t bet the test comes back negative. I would however certainly bet there’s a lot of people eating their words right about now. It sucks that so many people had to learn the hard way that those of us who already knew better have to go down with the ship too.

Edit: Interestingly enough I tested negative today. Is it wrong that I was seriously hoping it was positive so I could stop worrying about it so much?
