Well, in Aachen (Germany), the French stole during the revolutionary wars two columns from the Dom (Cathedral), which are now on display in the Louvre (iirc). In Aachen there are now copies. I guess its fine as long as the stories get told and people learn about history this way.
Other Europeans need to learn if you want any historical artefacts returned from the English you best follow Scotland's example (Stone of Scone) and send a group of students to take it back in the night.
