I also love when you say you don't want kids and they look at you like you just said you enjoy sticking your dick in the toaster. How about everyone worry about their own damn lives?

Reminds me of the story of a dad buying infant formula at the grocery store and the cashier snottily saying, “You know, breast milk really is healthier for children.” The dad replies, “Yeah I agree. I’m sure my wife would have preferred to breast feed if she hadn’t died in childbirth.”

I learned a similar lesson from the other point of view (not as mean as the OP though). I was in rehab and we were talking about something family related and I felt like one guy wasn't getting included so I asked him something along the lines of "what's your mom's favorite xyz" and he was like "my moms dead."

It made me realize that innocent assumptions like someone having parents aren't to be relied on.

Of course you can't spend you whole life walking on egg shells. The process of getting to know somebody involves breaking down some of those barriers, so it can be talked about eventually. But now I don't even bring up those kinds of things around acquaintances, customers, or random strangers I might chat with at the store or whatever.

Bonus story: at outpatient rehab in group therapy one group member was trying to make us feel better and he was like "come on guys were not bad people its not like we killed anybody!" And the dude in the corner who killed someone DUI was like "I did...." everyone's face: 😬
