The answer is: they don't really worship him on Sundays, or ever.
Hypocrisy doesn't even cut it - the evangelicals in the GOP's orbit couldn't be any less like Jesus if they tried. And them being the public face of the faith is driving record numbers of young people away out of the religion. So much the better.
To be fair, many Republican "church goers" are lying about going to church. They think they should go to church, so they say they do. The only inconsistency here is the way their entire worldview conflicts with history and reality.
