It's common for us to look at picture of Obama before taking office and after, to see how much 8 years of that job aged him.

This man held the job longer than anyone, and presided over the Great Depression and WWII. All with a body already crippled by disease. There's a weariness in those eyes that very few men have experienced.

This photo was taken as a reference for Elizabeth Shoumatoff's portrait of FDR.

Shoumatoff was maybe about an hour into the painting session when Roosevelt collapsed from a massive stroke bleed. He never regained consciousness and died a few hours later.

That portrait of FDR remains unfinished and you can still see it at the Little White House at Warm Springs, Georgia.

What will astound people is that he was only 63 years old.
