Spending $6,000 because some idiot who built this house cheaped out and used PVC for part of the water main. Have to get a whole new water main installed, also facing a $1,000+ water bill due to wasted water.

In our area if you can show the water company that you had a break they take it off the bill. You might look into that.

PVC is fine for water main. It needs to be deeper, bigger and in a gravel bed though

The problem isn't that it's PVC, it's that someone put a metal male fitting into a plastic female fitting. When it's tightened it puts all of the stress on the female fitting and eventually it cracks. Easy fix, find a different plumber.
