Edit— since so many people are taking issue with “NIH” and “trillions,” here is a source that explains how pharmaceutical companies benefit from publicly funded research, only to turn around and hold sick taxpayers ransom. And all 210 drugs approved by the FDA a decade back benefited from studies funded by the NIH.
the fact that certain policies and practices are not illegal such as this, large corporations lobbying and meddling with politics, predatory student loans, etc just blows my mind.
