Amazing that only one county northwest of Kansas voted Democratic, Mineral County in Montana. In the aftermath of the Civil War there were quite a lot of Confederate soldiers that went on to become miners in Montana, and they were a big part of the state's early history, so it seems likely that there would have been a decent population of folks in that area still loyal to the south at that point.
