Don’t forget the 2002 movie John Q, where Denzel’s character holds a hospital hostage to get a heart transplant for his son, which isn’t covered by his insurance.
The version of Breaking Bad where a teacher made a gofundme to upgrade his Pontiac Aztec because he couldn't get to his radiation treatments would have had a different vibe.
As someone who has had a wife go through chemo and several surgeries, I would have absolutely nothing but debt without my employer based coverage. The bills are outrageous! I am super lucky to have a good job that provides excellent coverage but it’s still fairly expensive and I am constantly worried about what would happen if I lost my job.
