Some stores have said their policy is "those who want to wear one can, those who dont want to, don't". It's the same as those signs that say "Those who don't want to wear pants, don't have to in this store". Totally normal

This just kind of proves that they don't view people in the service industry as people.

In my store, we are no longer allowed to enforce the mask mandate on our customers. (Massachusetts, convenience store/gas station)
we can merely suggest it to them as they come in.
we've had customers try to fight us, spit on us, cough on us, even received death threats!
one customer told me he would wait outside my work for me to get out and he was going to jump me when i left.
all because we ask them to please wear a mask and be considerate of others who are social distancing.
