In The Terminator (1984), the T-800 is actually searching the phonebook with both fingers. A closeup shot shows his right finger hover down to Sarah, but in the wide shot its revealed he's already found John Conner with his left.

It’s a cool detail but make you wonder why the terminator should use the fingers on the page instead of just “screen-shooting” the page with his visual.

Amazing how simply the whole drama could have been avoided if John Connor had used an alias. Good luck going back in time and finding the mother of Colonel McKickass you stupid machine

Also, a bit later the Terminator shows up at "Sarah Connor's" home and kills her. But this particular Sarah's house number (14239) is completely different from any we saw in the phone book.
