EDMONTON — A conglomerate of Alberta unions is posting the names of businesses that have donated to affiliates of the United Conservative Party, in a new campaign to boycott those who helped Jason Kenney’s party get elected.

The website, boycottucpdonors.ca, lists businesses that have donated to conservative-leaning political action funds and third-party advertisers, such as Shaping Alberta’s Future and the Alberta Advantage Fund.

The donor lists are already public, thanks to Alberta’s public disclosure laws, and have also been used in previous boycott campaigns. The website tells says: “send them (the donors) a message with your wallet by boycotting their services.”

The Alberta Federation of Labour, which includes 25 different labour groups, including various public service unions, the firefighters’ union and several unions catering to tradespeople, is the highest-profile group to call for a boycott against UCP-aligned businesses.

If your business is struggling that much surely the first thing you cancel is political donations. Unless of course the reason why oil pipeline companies are making donations is because they expect to more than make the money from the donations back again if their candidate gets elected, but then doesn't that make the donation a bribe?
