To answer the insane person's question, YES in some cities they do quickly mask up during flu outbreaks. Sometimes they also do 72-hour school shutdowns and deep cleans.

The properties of coronaviruses and flu viruses aren't identical, but a lot of the simple prep like masks and sanitation help slow the spread of both.

Tokyo, HK, Singapore, etc...all huge densely populated cities that deal with this better than most.

How do people not realize that a 99% survival rate is actually horrible odds? If there was a jar of 100 jellybeans and one of them was poisonous, would you still take the risk and eat one of them? Probably not. The coronavirus is like the jar of jellybeans except you don’t get the choice not to get the coronavirus.

Also 1% of the US is 3.28 million people.
