I wasn't aware of who the Proud Boys are until the presidental debate. If I were still out of the loop coming to Reddit, I'd assume they were an LGBT+ group with all these posts.
After learning about the origins and subtext of the original Proud Boys, I'm going to go ahead and attribute the name to gay rights activists. They seem a little less violent.
I was at the hangar next door when this happened. It was a big deal, even though DADT had just recently been repealed. Since it wasn't against the rules, Marines complained because it's unprofessional to do that in uniform, but no one bats an eye when it's a civilian female jumping into her uniformed husband's arms.
