As the head researcher who conducted this study, the reason I choose only 3 cities to survey residents in and the reason two of those three cities are only 30 miles apart is because I specifically set out to frustrate people on reddit.

I have no idea why they didn't pick a city more equidistant to Merced and Redding (such as Sacramento or Yuba City) instead of Red Bluff. Or why they didn't also include a city in So Cal to survey residents. I would have loved to hear where San Diegans think the dividing line between So Cal and Nor Cal is (map probably drenched in blue lol)

Anyways. Interesting results overall. I love that someone out there thinks that Ventura County is Northern California. Or, on the other extreme, nobody in Redding thinks that Yuba County is north enough.

Now do one for where "Upstate New York" begins.

The correct answer, as I have explained many times before, is:

Safeway = Northern California Vons = Southern California

End of discussion.
