Holy shit.. I can’t even imagine how unhealthy it must feel being that weak and skinny, I wonder how long it took for them to recover after being released..

My grandfather was in the Pacific with MacArthur and he helped liberate the camps. When he approached one, he saw all the POWs standing at the gate. Then one smiled and said “where ya been mate?” Still one of the favorite stories.

My Great Uncle was in Changi. When he returned to Aus his brother (my grandfather) and his father went pick him up and walked straight past him, he was so unrecognisable.
