My eldest daughter (13) is autistic and did not speak English until she was nearly 6. She had her own language from the age of 3 until intensive speech therapy helped her during her 5th year. Her word for “Lion” was “Yuirad”- the only example I remember the therapist writing down.

But the two words that she was always able to say once she started being verbal at 3 were “loff yew”.

This post gave me feels :)

I am a talker and recently married a quiet man. I am starting to realize how unnecessary most talking is.

My son is autistic, and he struggles to have conversations with people he doesn't know well - this even sometimes includes aunts, uncles etc that he sees every other week, for example. Just shuts himself off and goes mute. When you're in his 'comfort bubble' man, you can't get him to stop talking!!

I love those times that I can just hold a conversation with him, makes me feel so lucky that he chooses me to open up to!
