I work with glass. There's actually a glass shortage in the US right now. Still left over from the recession in '08. They're still trying to get the furnaces running at full production.

Glass furnaces have to run 24/7 for this reason - turn them off and the glass inside will cool and harden.
If a furnace is shut down, it takes several months to prepare it to be restarted.
