Man, that’s interesting. I figured it would be more spread out, but they really just stayed in the south.

I wonder what those little “hot” spots in Nevada and South Dakota(?) are.

This is a great example of environmental history, how the environment has shaped human settlement (forced and unforced). From East Texas to South Carolina is the cotton belt and in Northeast North Carolina and Southeast Virginia was the center for growing tobacco. These concentrations are visible vestiges of American slavery.

Fun Fact- that high concentration strip was a result of fertile grounds left behind from a 100 million year old coastline
